From Cotton Fields to Movie Premieres

Documentary Short

Luster Bayless was a sharecropper’s son who grew up in the Mississippi delta during the depression. To help make ends meet, Luster was often working in the field with his dad instead of attending class or football practice. In order to briefly escape the hardships of poverty and isolation, Luster used to frequent the movies where his hero was, of course, John Wayne.

Little did young Luster know, he would not only meet John Wayne one day, but he would eventually become the Duke’s main costumer.
